When your children grow up there are so many things you miss from when they were little. One of the things I miss is reading to them before bed. That was “our quiet time”. We usually read the same books every night and before they were two, they knew the books by heart. So much, that if there was a night a wanted to get them to bed quicker because I was so tired didn’t want to miss the start of my favorite show on TV and I would try to skip a page, they would stop me in my tracks and I would have to go back. How I wish I could have those days back! I would relish them. One of our favorite books was The Cat In The Hat. To this day the three of us could recite the book word for word.
When the girls were teenagers, we went to Universal Studios in Florida and the three of us rode the ride “The Cat In The Hat”. It’s now another favorite memory because again the three of us got to recite the book and laugh through the whole ride. Dr Seuss has made many memories for us and we still quote his books often. ……Don’t want something? We answer with, “I do not like it Sam I am!”
When my grandson was born, of course one of the first books I bought him was the Dr Seuss ABC Book. This past weekend I bought him The Cat In The Hat and while reading it, I told him that Thing 1 and Thing 2 were his mother and his Zia, not realizing that when telling something to a two year old, he believes everything you say! He now points it out and tells people that Thing 1 & Thing 2 are his mommy and Zia.
I had a hard time finding certain Dr Seuss books…… can you believe it?! Then I remembered our book subscription from when my kids were little and each month they would get a few books in the mail. They would always be excited when the books came and we eventually had the entire set of Dr Seuss. I recently found the subscription where you get 5 books for $5.95 and you get 3 books each month- YAY! I ordered mine and I wanted to share it with you!
