What You Need To Know About Feeding Your Baby

January 12, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

Whether you are a first-time parent or you are just keen on having a reminder, it’s important to always know what you need to do regarding feeding your baby. As it happens, there are a lot of things that you need to remember about it, and that’s why it is so easy to overlook or forget one or two of the details. You might also experience this if you are having a second or third child, but it has been a few years since your last.

To make it all easier, we’ve put together the following guide on how to feed your baby. Taking the following into account, you should be able to feed your baby much more easily and effectively, and above all, safely.

Starting With Breastfeeding

First of all, let’s look at breastfeeding, because this is probably what you will start with when you are feeding your new baby. Of course, it’s up to you how you feed your baby and with what, but breast milk is the best as it contains everything your baby needs, and you will find that it can also help with bonding with your child. However, many mothers experience some troublesome times when they are trying to breastfeed their child, and this is a very common experience which you are going to need to be prepared for.

Certain things can help with this, and you’ll find that it can just take a while for the both of you to learn how it’s done. But the main thing is that you persist with it and try it out, as it is much healthier for them than going straight onto formula.

Feeding On Cue

One of the main ways in which you can make it all a lot easier is to ensure that you are feeding your baby on cue, which essentially means that you are looking for the early signs that they might be getting hungry. You’ll also probably feel that your body is giving you signs that it might be time, so you can pay attention to that too. Your baby might move their hands to their mouth when they are ready to feed, or alternatively they might suck on their fists and fingers. When things get more desperate, they might start crying and generally fussing. The sooner you feed them, the less likely they are to get to those desperate stages, which is easier for everyone involved.

Using Formula

If you are considering using baby formula, either right away or after weaning off breast milk, then there are likewise some vital things that you need to understand here too. First of all, you need to ensure that you are careful about which formula you feed your baby. There are plenty on the market, and it can be tough to know which are likely to be suitable and which might not be, so this is something that you are certainly going to want to think about.

One of the major concerns here is that some types of baby formula have been known to cause severe and even fatal consequences to babies around the world, so you will obviously want to make sure you are avoiding those in particular. If anything does happen it can be hugely tragic, and you’ll need to get hold of baby formula lawsuit attorneys to ensure that you get the compensation you deserve. But you would of course rather avoid those brands altogether and keep your baby safe.

One other important factor in bottle-feeding is to ensure that you are sterilizing everything well. You need to sterilize bottles until your baby is at least twelve months old, and wash your hands before handling sterilized bottles and teats. This is vital for keeping your baby safe.

Consider Supplements

It is very common, and perfectly safe, to give baby supplements. Particularly common is giving a baby Vitamin D supplements, but of course you will need to ensure that you are using ones specifically made for babies. When your child gets enough Vitamin D, it helps with so many aspects of their wider health, so it’s a hugely important thing to make sure that you are considering.

There are certainly a lot of things you need to bear in mind when you are feeding your newborn baby. As long as you have thought about the above, you should find that you are much more likely to keep them safe and healthy, and to make things a little easier on yourself as well.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
