Simple Ways To Secure Your Family Home

December 17, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

Making sure that your family property is as safe and secure as it can be is such an essential step for every parent and homeowner, but it can seem a little tricky to figure out where to start. Fortunately, this guide contains a whole host of simple steps that you can follow to reduce the risks and dangers around your home, and it truly couldn’t be easier to get started today. So, if you’re interested in finding out more about how you can secure your family home, then read on to uncover a variety of tips and tricks that you can utilize now!

Locks For Doors & Windows

First and foremost, it’s absolutely vital that you can take the opportunity to purchase the sturdiest, strongest locks for both your doors and windows if you want to maintain good levels of security at home. Having no locking mechanisms around the exterior of your property will leave you open to so many risks, and the last thing that you want is to find some unknown person lurking inside your family home. Start with your front door, investing in a top quality locking system that secures in several different places (not just the center). Multiple locking locations will make your front door much more resilient, subsequently making it near impossible for someone to break in from the outside without the use of power tools. If you have any other external doors then follow a similar process to ensure they are inaccessible without a key, even if they are inside the safety of a fenced off area – anyone could climb into your backyard, but they should be stumped when they reach a door. Windows should be your next focus, as you need to be able to close and lock each on securely for a number of reasons. Windows can be a risk for small children, especially those which are located above the ground floor, as they may not yet understand the danger of falling from a height. It’s your responsibility to minimize their risk of falling, and having your windows locked safely so that a child could not open them is always the most secure option.

Foolproof Fencing

Setting up some foolproof fencing that’s over 6 feet high is an effective way to increase the security of your family home, and taking extra steps to add things like barbed wire or climb-proof paint can protect you even further. Leaving yourselves out in the open with no form of protection is one of the worst decisions that you could make, as it leaves an open opportunity for a criminal to track your behaviours and see into your family home with such ease. Anyone could walk right up to your property and try a door or window, so this is a vital step that you need to take if you want to maintain good levels of safety. Make sure you use a thick weatherproof material for your fencing, as wear and tear could weaken your perimeter if you purchase a cheap option.

Install Tech-Based Security Systems

Installing a range of tech-based security systems is another great option to explore, as you can benefit massively from the support of electronic devices. First off, CCTV or security cameras are the perfect choice to help monitor your property both inside and out, and you can even contract a team of security specialists that will watch your video stream to check for and respond to any possible dangers or risks. Having a CCTV system in place will act as a kind of video surveillance that records every second, so you can watch live or replay videos for ultimate peace of mind. Some security camera systems can be linked to your smartphone so that you can monitor your family home even when you’re away, which is ideal if you have to leave your teenagers unaccompanied for a quick trip to the grocery store. Having obvious CCTV cameras outside of your property can also be a great deterrent for unlawful activity, as criminals will spot your security system and move elsewhere. Additionally, you may also wish to install some form of advanced alarm system inside your home that is triggered by movement or uses heat mapping. A good alarm system uses serious technology to detect activity inside your home, so you can set it during the night when you’re asleep or whenever you head out of the house and leave it unattended. A loud siren and an alert to local police services will ensue if ever your alarm system detects something, which is ideal to help you rest without anxiety.

Defend Yourselves

Every homeowner has a right to defend themselves, but having nothing but magazines and television remotes to hand is not going to be enough to protect your family property if the worst were to happen. Thinking about how you can defend yourself if someone were to gain unlawful entry to your home is really important, as you don’t want to be stuck in the mud unable to help your nearest and dearest in such a situation. There are many different options that you can explore when it comes to protecting your home in this manner, but it all depends on the laws in your local area. Each state has its own set guidelines surrounding your rights to bear arms, so you must take the time to read up on this information to avoid committing an illegal act. Search for tasers law by state, or alternatively find out whether you can keep arms inside your family home with the appropriate gun licence. If ever you keep weapons inside your family property, you must always ensure that they are stored in the correct manner. You must not allow your children to gain access to your gun safe, taser or any other form of self-protection, as they are not responsible enough to handle such a weapon. They could do themselves, you or your family real damage by confusing a weapon for a toy, so be sure to store them out of reach in a secure place so that the danger is as minimal as possible.

Securing your family home has never been so simple.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
