5 Ways To Improve Your Spiritual Health

November 8, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

Generally, people like to live a life with meaning and purpose. The spiritual element of wellness can often be the most personal piece of the puzzle. When goals are met, it puts harmony in one’s life, and the others they surround themselves with. So what can you do to improve your spiritual wellness?  It’s best to figure out what techniques work the best for you. Spiritual wellness involves one’s beliefs, values and purpose and this can be achieved in several ways-both mentally and physically.

1. Take time to meditate

Managing your time and daily tasks can be very difficult however, it’s crucial to devote time to really connect with yourself. This can be in the morning when you wake up, during your lunch break, or before you go to sleep. Take 5 to 10 minutes to meditate each day. It can reduce symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety, increase mindfulness, and possibly reduce physical conditions like headaches, insomnia, and high blood pressure. It can be very helpful to use a guided meditation app like Calm or Headspace both of which have free trials.

2. Keep a journal

Things can often get hectic and overwhelming in day-to-day life. Write whatever you are feeling in the moment or create a specific type of journal, like a gratitude journal. Journaling can help you process your emotions, increase self-awareness, achieve your goals and decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Every night before you go to sleep jot down three things you are grateful for. To get started, try googling ‘journaling-prompts for spiritual growth.’ These prompts are questions you can answer or activities you can do as thought-starters to increase your self-awareness.

3. Connect with your faith community

This is a component of spiritual health that allows you to understand your strengths and weaknesses, connect with others and process your emotions.  Find someone or an organization that shares your beliefs and thoughts and reconnect with them. You can reflect on your emotions instead of pushing them away. This can be done simply online. Pastor Paula White presents a lifestyle video network in which she connects, inspires and encourages women of faith empowering women to come together and share common interests. This is a great way to connect with like-minded people within your faith community who can support and encourage you.

4. Step away from social media

If you find yourself resentful, jealous, sad, angry or any other negative emotions after scrolling through your Instagram feed, it can be very helpful to take a break from social media. Social media can be a fantastic tool to stay in touch with family and friends and make new connections. However, it is often a source of social comparison for many people and this can be very unhealthy. It is important to remember that social media is merely a highlight reel of other people’s lives.

5. Practice yoga

You don’t have to be a yogi to gain the spiritual benefits of the practice. Besides strengthening and stretching your body, it can help to clear your mind and help you become a happier human being. You can find an instructor online or watch free videos on a social-media site to get started!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
