How To Prepare For Your First Outing With Your New Baby

September 19, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

No matter if it is your first child or you have a full gaggle of children, that first outing with your newborn is always memorable. It is the first time your baby has been exposed to the outside world, and it may be a daunting event for both of you if you do not go in well prepared. We have put together some suggestions to make your first outing with your infant as smooth and enjoyable as possible for both you and your child.

To begin, we will presume that you have selected the most appropriate pram for your need. You most likely spent a significant portion of your pregnancy debating which stroller or pram to purchase and whether or not you need a pram fur hood.  As soon as you have it, and the baby to put in it, you should think about what you will take with you on your trip. Babies never travel light, but being prepared for every possibility is always preferable to being underprepared in the first place.

A large change or pram bag is a must-have for any family. If your child is bottle-fed, you will need to keep a bottle on hand at all times. You will also need a supply of diapers and wipes, and a fold-up changing mat is always a good idea in case you have to change your child in a squalid public restroom. Any comfort things that your infant may have, such as blankets, toys, and pacifiers, should be placed in this container as well. The use of burp cloths, cleaning up spit-up, a light cover-up for feeding, and even as a blanket when necessary are all things that muslin cloths come in handy for. A change of clothes is really necessary; you can almost guarantee that the one time you leave the house without one, they will have a diaper explosion or puke all over the place.

It is probably time for bed now that you have finished packing your belongings. Yes, get accustomed to the fact that you will never be able to leave the house on short notice! On a serious note, though, once you have finished packing everything, it is time to choose a destination for your trip! Whatever the weather, you will probably want to keep your first outing with your new baby short and pleasant, regardless of how long you have been waiting. While you are still recovering from the delivery of your child and dealing with the sleepless nights that come with having a new baby, they are easily overwhelmed and overstimulated. For the first trip, a simple stroll around the neighborhood, possibly with a quick pitstop at the neighborhood coffee shop, is always a good idea. After that, you can gradually increase the amount of time you spend away from home until one day you are boarding a plane and jetting off to spend two weeks with them!

As previously stated, it is always preferable to be over-prepared rather than under-prepared. Depending on your previous experience, you may discover that packing a pram, a changing bag, and clothing baby for a trip out takes longer than the time you spend actually on the trip. This is perfectly normal. In reality, it is pretty usual in this situation. Remember to give yourself and your child plenty of time to learn the ropes, and you will be prepared for any adventures – and minor snags – that may come your way in the near future.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
