Support Veterans by Donating Spare Change with DAV (Disabled American Veterans)

December 17, 2020 Rachel Ferrucci

armyWe have many family traditions around the holidays and one of the most important traditions includes supporting Disabled American Veterans. Another tradition we have includes having the family together, with the exception of those times family members have been away in the service.

familyThis Christmas we will miss my nephew who is stationed in Hawaii. When we take our annual family photo we will think of ways to include him, as if he was home with us. Having him on FaceTime or on Zoom is fun and will create laughter but it will never be the same as having everyone together. This holiday season we will be thinking of all the veterans who missed holidays with family and friends and many who now live with  injuries and illnesses as a result of their service by donating spare change with DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

Donating spare change is a great way to support and honor those that gave up so much for us. We can make a difference with only a few pennies.

DAV (Disabled American Veterans) launched a new, innovative and festive donor challenge to support veterans by donating spare change during the holidays and running the challenge into the new year. The program allows donors to round up purchases on a credit or debit card on a monthly basis to automatically donate “spare change”.

With each swipe your spare change from the purchase will give holiday hope and a brighter 2021 to disabled veterans.

Whether you are Christmas shopping for the kids, buying your meals, getting new decorations, or even getting gas, the Spare Change program helps a veteran.

For example, you purchase a Funko Pop for $9.84 on a linked debit card or credit card. DAV automatically “rounds up” that transaction to the next dollar and that spare change, in this example, $0.16, is donated to help injured and ill veterans.

Anyone can participate! Just three easy steps:
1. ENROLL. Enroll in the program online . Link a credit or debit card you use for daily purchases.
2. SHOP. Use your card for holiday or everyday purchases, online shopping for the most wanted toys for your kids or grandkids, or a new wreath for the front door. In other words, spend like you normally would.
3. HELP VETERANS. Every purchase made on your card will automatically round up to the nearest dollar and your spare change is donated directly to DAV to give hope to veterans!

Things have majorly changed in 2020 but one thing that stayed consistent is our veterans still need our help. This holiday season make a difference by donating your spare change!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
