7 Secrets to Reduce Premature Skin Aging

People’s skin ages differently and, unfortunately, it’s not possible to turn back time. There are, however, ways you can protect your skin to keep it looking younger for longer. Premature skin aging can be caused by factors such as lifestyle, stress, and the main culprit sunlight. There are also some useful products on the market as well, even if they take time to work. Keep on top of your skincare, and you’ll have fresher, glowing skin for longer. Here are seven simple secrets to reduce premature skin aging. 

 

Always use sunblock

 

It’s pretty much proven that sunlight is the number one cause of skin aging. This means you should try never to forget your sunscreen. Apply sunblock to your face and any exposed areas even in the cooler months. You should also remember to use it while driving and in other situations where even though you might not get burnt, you are still being exposed to UV rays. Zinc and titanium dioxide are a couple of active ingredients to look for in a sunscreen. Don’t forget your sunglasses or even a hat on brighter days.

 

Be patient with anti-aging products

 

It probably feels like you’ve got too much choice with anti-aging products as there are so many brands on the market. The important thing to remember is that they might not work instantly, so give them time before you give and change to another product. Skin cells take weeks to grow so wait up to a month when testing a new anti-aging cream. Stick with the cream that works for you and that doesn’t provoke any negative reactions. 

 

Look for active ingredients rather than brands

 

Even though designer brands seem more reputable because they’re famous or more expensive, this isn’t always the case. Look for the best anti-aging ingredients rather than names. There are several including both natural and synthetic options that you will be able to find in a variety of anti-aging creams and serums. You can certainly save money by opting for an own-brand rather than high-end products, and you’ll probably end up with the same results. It’s more important that you choose products for their active ingredients rather than celebrity endorsement, for example.

 

Alternative at-home solutions

 

You don’t always need a visit to a cosmetic surgeon or a beautician to reduce premature skin aging. There are alternative at-home solutions you can try such as cosmetic injectables. These are used to treat wrinkles and prevent their development. Speak to your GP or a dermatologist if you’re thinking about trying a new treatment and find out what’s best for you. 

 

Sleep well

 

Certain studies have shown that sleep deprivation affects your skin. For a healthy body and mind, make sure you get enough sleep and follow a regular sleep pattern. This will give your body the time it needs to recover after a hard day’s work. You’re much more likely to appear revitalised and rejuvenated if you’ve had a good night’s sleep, even if this is simply due to the fact that you have more energy during the day.

 

Don’t shed too many pounds

 

Losing too much weight could make your face appear thin and haggard. It’s better to try to maintain a healthy weight than stressing yourself out yo-yo dieting and spending hours in the gym. Relax and enjoy life, and you will glow inside and out. Stay active by all means and stick to a healthy routine, however. Eating a balanced diet and regular exercise are also better for your skin. Remember to stay hydrated as well while you’re working out as this will help to maintain soft and supple skin. 

 

Keep calm and carry on

 

Some studies have also found links between stress and skin aging. Everybody ages, so it’s important to try to do it with grace rather than getting stressed about it. Stress can have a detrimental effect on your overall health and wellbeing so try some relaxation techniques. Many people have achieved positive results from activities such as mindful meditation, yoga, and aromatherapy. Sometimes getting fresh air and exercise does wonders for the mind as well. Find the stress-relieving activity that works best for you.

 

Maintain a healthy skincare routine and find the products that work best for you. Always remember to practise self-care and stay out of the sun. These are just a few ways you can reduce the signs of premature skin aging. Take care of yourself and your skin, so you can feel happier, healthier, and more confident for longer.
