Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler

June 15, 2012 Rachel Ferrucci 5 Comments

I’m not a huge “green” person but I do try to do my part. I don’t litter, I try to use less water, and I recycle my cans. We have the $.05 deposit on drinks that come in cans but I usually don’t take them back, I throw them out- or rather recycle them. Our kitchen is not huge and for some reason we need a large garbage can which is left by the back door. It’s visible but strategically placed. On any given day you will see a bag next to the garbage can filled with recyclables – not attractive! I sometimes leave them in the sink if I only have a few because I don’t like the bag on the floor, especially if little man comes over.  They’re sharp and he could get cut.

My storage container cabinet is a nightmare. On my project list is to clean it out and go buy all new storage container that actually have lids that fit.

Are you wondering why I went from recyclables to storage containers?

I was asked to review a Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler. When I think Rubbermaid, I think of containers. I was so excited that I would be able to organize my cabinet and get rid of all the mis-match containers with a “hidden” recycler. No the word Recycler did make me think of cans and empty milk jugs. I thought of containers, when we package our food, we’re recycling right?

Much to my surprise when it came the box was flat. Picture someone with that totally lost look, head tilted, Twilight Zone feeling. Then like a bullet, it hits me. Can you say dumbass? I must have laughed for an hour.

I open it and find not only will this hold a ton of cans but it fits under your sink attached to the door. This is genius! No more cans on the floor or on my counter. I got so excited because I wasn’t expecting this at all. Then of course I realized I’m now my mother, getting excited over house gadgets and supplies. Whatever, go ahead make fun of me but my cans are hidden and once the bag is full I simply dump it in my recycle bin. I wash out all the cans but should someone forget, the plastic material is totally washable and leak proof so worries there. With it hidden under the sink I don’t have to worry about Prince getting into the cans. No more bags on the floor for me!

Well, we don’t have a bin for them, so we just kind of stack them, or find empty boxes and stuff them in there. Not cool, i know 🙂

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
