Family time can be squashed in sometimes. So, of course, you want to make the most of it. One of the most enjoyable (and relaxing) ways to spend your family time is with a movie night. Everything can wear their most comfortable clothing and snuggle on the couch. And sure, you might not be all that excited to watch Mulan for the 900th time, but the time spent is more than worth it.

Theme
Choosing a theme for the evening can be a lot of fun. Dressing up, or only using the language you’d hear in the time period of the movie makes it even more interesting. If you like Pokemon, LEGO, or Comicbook Heroes then go with that as an option. Have all of the snacks and games to match. If you have preselected the movie, you can print a list of questions for a quiz once the film has finished.
Reviews
While you might think movies nights are pretty relaxed, they can still be a learning opportunity. You can everyone for an opinion about the movie, ask for plenty of details and answer any questions they might have too. Reviews are an excellent way for kids to recall details and helps them pay closer attention to what they are watching.
Snack-Tastic
Instead of the snack responsibility landing on one person, encourage kids who are old enough to purchase or make a snack to bring the movie night. Experiment with different flavours of popcorn, make your own pizza, create a mocktail and name it after the movie you’re going to be watching. Try to have a mixture of fruit and veggie snacks as well as the usual cookies and popcorn too. Reusable popcorn buckets give it a more authentic experience too!
Blankets
The utter joy of snuggling under a blanket isn’t something you can do at the cinema. So try to keep the blankets washed and ready to go ahead of time. To make them extra warm pop them in the tumble dryer, or place them next to the radiators and grab them just before you press play.
Up The Ante
Instead of watching your movie on your TV, get a portable mini projector. All you’ll need is wall space or a big white sheet to project on too. You can even take the party outside if the weather is on your side.
And finally, if more of the time will be spent trying to pick a film, add a selection of names to paper and pull a random one out of a hat. Or, use an online random generator to help make a choice quickly.
