Behold The Beauty Of Travel

January 29, 2018 Rachel Ferrucci 1 Comment

Just because you’re considering a jaunt halfway across the globe doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your beauty regime, your perfect complexion and your stunningly shaped eyebrows. When you set foot on the plane to venture to the outback of Australia, the Amazonian jungle of Brazil or the Inca trail of Peru, you don’t have to leave all of your makeup behind, you simply have to adapt what you take and how you use it.

Hop onto any travel blog, and you’ll see just how beautifully coiffed the young twenty-something backpacker is. Even if your thirty-something or forty-something, traveling should be about the experience and the adventure. You want to immerse yourself in new cultures, taste new cuisine and meet new people without worrying about poorly conditioned hair. Take a look at these ways you can maintain your beauty regime in alternative environments.

The Essentials

When you’re hot-footing it to sunnier climes with nothing more than a rucksack on your back, you need to work efficiently with your limited space. There’s no point packing your Mac kit if it’s the size of a tea caddy. Make a list of all of your bare essentials (i.e. things you cannot possibly live without) and start thinking about how you can shrink these down. Do your research and see what you can purchase in the destination you’re traveling to. If you have a favorite concealer, but it’s only available in the most peculiar shaped and awkward designer bottles, think about transferring some into the travel containers you can pick up in any supermarket.

If you have long, thick and luscious locks, the chances are that you won’t fancy heading out on the town with wet hair every evening. Get hold of an ergonomically designed travel hair dryer that’s light and that you can have with you at all times. If you’re traveling to hostels, they may not always have those added luxuries that a hotel may have.

Makeup

You won’t be able to maintain the exact same routine you have at home. This is because it takes you way too much time, you have better things to do when you’re exploring a new country, and you simply won’t have the space to pack everything in your holdall. Instead, go back to basics. A mascara, concealer and a bit of lippy are all you’ll need to retain a beautified look. These items are small and can be packed away easily amongst your rolled up tops, trousers, shoes and coat.

Skincare

More important than makeup are the products you use to maintain the health of your skin. Traveling for long periods in climates that are different to home can lead to dry, flaky skin. It’s vital that you have a moisturiser with you at all times. This should be a tube-like cream that you can keep in your pocket, rather than your backpack. You need to ensure that your face is well cared for and has all the moisture it needs. If your skin is sensitive, stick to unperfumed and aqua based emollients to rejuvenate your pores.

In the evenings, ensure that you use a cleanser to rub off the day’s grubbiness and don’t forget to exfoliate. Just because you may be visiting the orangutans of Borneo, doesn’t mean you can’t take care of your skin. When you feel confident in how you look and how healthy your skin is, you will be able to travel without feeling self-conscious.

Packing

Creams, sprays, liquids and makeup can lead to all sorts of mess if not packed properly. Imagine getting off the plane only to discover you have a delightful sunblock stain across half of your tops. Whatever you do, ensure that lids and seals are intact before you pack. Wrap them carefully and make sure that they are in a makeup bag or other separate small bag within your larger holdall. If you can, keep your items in a separate pocket, so they don’t have to mingle uncomfortably with your clothes. And remember, only take what you can’t purchase overseas to free up more space in your luggage.

Although you are venturing off on the trip of a lifetime, you don’t have to forego your beauty luxuries. Like with most aspects of travel you simply need to adapt to a more conducive way of living when out and about on your adventures.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
