I’m sure, like most people, you are very familiar with the US’s West and East Coasts. These are the two most popular destinations for travelers and tourists in the country, and that’s no wonder when you think of the cities on those coasts. The West Coast is home to Los Angeles and San Francisco, while New York City and New Jersey are jewels of the East Coast. If you think that these two coasts are the best of America, though, you need to quickly reconsider.

But have you ever considered heading south? If not, it’s time you planned a trip to some of the southern states to discover some of their best-kept secrets. Read on to find out more!

Louisiana’s Live Music Scene

Do you like your live music? If so, then a trip to the state of Louisiana should definitely be on the cards for you! The Pelican State is known for its love of music and there are numerous live music venues in all of its towns and cities. The House Of Blues is probably one of the most famous venues in the state and there are always musicians playing the blues and old folk tunes to a captivated audience.

Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina

Want to get out into nature and stay active while you are in the south? It’s a good idea, or else all that fried chicken will go straight onto your waist! If you are up for an active trip, book a few nights in the Chinquapin North Carolina cabins so that you are right in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This area is extremely popular with hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, and there will be plenty for you to do out in the dramatic landscape!

New River Gorge National River, West Virginia

Love road trips? If so, hire a rental car and head straight to West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River. There isn’t a single route along the river, rather there are a few different ones you might want to travel along. But no matter which one you choose, it is certain to be amazing thanks to all the breathtaking scenery. There are also a lot of different bridges you can criss-cross the river with, making for some fantastic photo opportunities!

Mardi Gras, New Orleans

If you love to party, then make sure you book a trip for their biggest party of the year – Mardi Gras! There are Mardi Gras parties all across the world, but the ones in New Orleans are definitely some of the most exciting! It’s a great way to get a glimpse of some of the best aspects of Creole and Cajun cultures and sample some of their delicious dishes. Don’t forget to pop into the Davenport Lounge while you are there, as there will be some amazing live concerts in the venue.

It’s a wonder that all of these destinations have been kept a secret for so long. They are definitely worth checking out on your next trip down south!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
