It’s a scary time in the lives of most parents when their child becomes an adult. This is usually around the time that they leave the nest. Of course, from a maturity perspective, it’s likely that they won’t actually be what you would define as an adult until they reach around 26, but even 5 years before then, they are legally an adult in the eyes of the law.
Of course, different countries and cultures define adults differently. For Jewish communities, it can be 13 years old. For European cultures, it might be 16 years old. No matter what your culture tells you, it’s only you as a parent who’ll know for sure when your little baby becomes an adult, and even then it’s likely that you’ll refuse to see it out of a feeling of nostalgia. This is a perfectly natural response, but your approach to them leaving the nest needn’t be filled with too much sorrow.
This is an exciting time. They are now about to embark upon the time of their lives in which they will learn what it means to be a person. They’ll find out what brings them happiness and what brings them sadness. This is a time to be celebrated!
