Harness Pedal Power for Your Next Vacation

May 9, 2017 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

BikingCycling is a fantastic way to keep fit, and a fun hobby. Some people like to ride a bike as part of their everyday life, by commuting to work, for example. Others enjoy cycling whenever they can find spare time, in the evenings or on the weekends. But if you want to spend a little more time riding your bicycle, a trip away for a cycling vacation could be just what you need. You could go on a tour, stopping with your bike along the way, or you could base your trip from one place and enjoy the local cycling trails. If it sounds like your kind of thing, have a look at some of the things you should think about.

What Do You Need?

Knowing what to take on your trip is one of the most basic points to be aware of. Of course, you need to take a bike with you, unless you plan to hire one at your destination. If you’re taking a bike, it needs to be right for the terrain you want to explore. A road bike might work for some destinations, but a mountain bike is better for others. You’ll need any safety gear, including a helmet and reflective clothing if you’ll be cycling at night. Pack appropriate clothes for your trip, plus food and anything to help you stay hydrated. If you’re camping, you’ll need a tent and sleeping bag too.

Transporting Your Gear

You might see off from your home on your bicycle. In which case, you might need bags on your bike or at least a backpack to carry your things. You might need these anyway if you’re planning on a tour. However, if you’re driving, you need to be able to transport your bike. Try a brand like Thule to find the perfect bike rack for your car. You might want to have your bike (or bikes) on the back of your vehicle, or on the roof. Another option is to use a bicycle trailer to tow your bikes behind you.

Where to Stop and Stay

Deciding where you’re going to stay needs to be one of the first things you do too. If you want to stay in one place, you can have a look for locations that offer lots of trails and cycling opportunities. You might want trails you can spend the day exploring, then return to your campground or perhaps cabin or even hotel. But if you decide to go on a tour, you could stop at hotels or motels along the way, or you could find places to set up a tent.

Staying Safe on Your Trip

Remember to focus on safety when you’re planning your trip. If you’ll be cycling on roads, you need to consider how to be safe in traffic and make sure that drivers can always see you. If you’ll be going off into the wilderness, it’s helpful to have a map and perhaps a way to get in contact with someone if you’re lost. Take a first aid kit on your trip too.
A cycling trip can be an exhilarating way to spend your vacation. Be prepared, and you’ll be sure to enjoy it.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
