Connecticut Open with Lexus

August 26, 2016 Rachel Ferrucci 18 Comments

I have never been to a tennis tournament before and when Lexus invited me to the Connecticut Open, I was more than happy to go! I grabbed my friend Jason Page, host of The Intersection and off we went. Lexus dropped off the NX 300h for us to ride there in class because everyone loves attention, right?

The Connecticut Open, a professional women’s tennis tournament, in New Haven was the stage all week for some the world’s top female players. As I said this was my first time and luckily I was sitting in the VIP Lexus suite because evidently you can not cheer for your girl. As a diehard football and baseball fan, not cheering is very difficult for me. I also have that natural “outside voice”.

We started out checking out the sponsors and of course stopped the Lexus booth to have some fun!

How Sweet Is This!

Big Balls! How Fun!

We then headed to the Lexus VIP Suite. The suite was perfect with tables to sit at, great food, and drinks. I headed straight to grab G.H. Mumm Prosecco, my favorite!

Jason a sports caster for years was able to fill me in on the rules of the game in a readers digest version and I was into the game in no time. Agnieszka Radwanska and Kirsten Flipkens played in a quarterfinal match at Stadium Court. Radwanska swung to a 6-1, 6-4 victory. ct-open

Next up was the Legends match, which I was super excited about. James Blake and John McEnroe hit the court with their rackets and the crowd exploded. The only way you don’t know John McEnroe is if you live under a rock. You waited for his spit fire attitude or a racket to be flung in all of his matches. I was amazed at the energy McEnroe, now 57 displayed, even hit a ball 116 mph. He didn’t disappoint his fans, charging the net and yelling about balls being out, he gave the true McEnroe show. Blake won the event 6-4 with many laughs between him and McEnroe after.

My first live tennis match was super fun and I would totally go again! Lexus made it memorable and I’m thankful for their invitation!

Do you watch tennis? What is your favorite McEnroe moment?

Tennis has to be the classiest sport ever. I mean, I certainly have never had that kind of food at a baseball game.

Classy. I have to wonder if we could somehow get this sort of set up at baseball and football games. I would go, then!

I don’t know much about tennis, but I love watching it. It’s so fast paced. Also, that yellow Lexus IS pretty neat!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
