7 Ways To Get Your Kids To Fall In Love With Sports

Getting your kids to fall in love with sports as early on as possible is going to be good for them in all kinds of ways. Your kids will learn how to move their bodies, and feel more at one with them. They will learn to enjoy exercise, which is better done from a young age so they can stay fit all throughout their life. They will also develop a hobby, which is something every child should have!

 

However, if your child isn’t the sportiest right now, or you’re having a hard time trying to get them into something, the advice here may help you. Take a look and find 7 ways to get your kids to fall in love with sports:

 

1. Watch Sports Together

Start by watching sports together. Watching on the TV and making an event of it is fine, but watching it in person can change everything. Going to a live sports match could be the catalyst that helps your kids to fall in love with sports. The atmosphere is often electric! 

 

2. Play With Them 

Play with your kids, whether it’s on an empty field or in your own back garden. When you get involved, they’ll usually have a lot more fun. You can even buy line up cards and get the rest of the family involved! Just don’t take it too seriously and keep it all about having fun.

3. Make Sure You’re Giving Them The Right Kind Of Praise

Making sure your kids are getting the right kind of praise is crucial. There’s a right way and a wrong way to praise kids. If you just tell them that they are so clever and talented when it comes to sports, they may become afraid of trying new things. Being specific about what they did well, and praising effort rather than talent will teach them that hard work is always a winner. 

 

Although you might believe your child is a natural, praising the effort they are putting in is still the best method of praise that will help them in the long run. 

 

4. Take It Slowly

Take things slowly. Don’t introduce them to all of the sports, all at once. Take your time with each sport you’d like to introduce them to. Show them classic clips, play it yourselves, buy them cards to study, and more. Stay longer on the ones they seem to be most interested in. 

 

5. Don’t Force A Particular Sport Onto Them 

If you love football but your child just doesn’t seem to be interested, don’t force it onto them. One day they might be interested, until them, let them explore for themselves. They might be a baseball or a hockey fanatic instead! 

 

6. Avoid Over Scheduling

Your child still needs rest and other hobbies, even if they seem full of energy. Don’t over schedule them! 

 

7. Give Your Child Freedom To Make Mistakes 

Your child should feel free to make mistakes without judgement or punishment. This is the one thing that can stop your child from enjoying themselves and actually trying new things. Are you really giving them that freedom?

When I found out I needed surgery, my 1st thought wasn’t the procedure. It was the fear of being handed opioids again with no real choice.
