I have ordered steaks through the mail but would never have thought I would order entire meals. My family and I are pretty particular when it comes to meals and I like to pick the freshest ingredients when grocery shopping. I find I cook less and less because I’m bored with the same dinners. Recipes are great for trying new and exciting meals, the challenge is to find the ingredients when shopping. Or worse, get home to find I forgot something.
In my travels I have found I love to try new foods. Once home, I’m back to the same dinners I always make. When Home Chef, a weekly Meal Delivery service, agreed to partner and send a few meals, I figured I had nothing to lose. I had a pot of sauce in the fridge in case I needed to cook macaroni on the fly.
I started by going to HomeChef.com and creating our taste profile. This included what we prefer to eat, what we want to avoid, and dietary preferences. I also picked what day of the week I wanted my delivery, how many people, and how many meals each week.
Stop Thinking
I dread the question, “What’s For Dinner?” I can choose to let Home Chef send me meals according to my profile or I can go in and look at the pictures/meals and choose myself. I’m visual so picking dinner by a picture is my cup of tea! **Note** I let them pick for my first order, I wanted to see what they would send. Each week you have 13 new meal delivery options, including gluten-free, low carb, vegetarian, soy-free and nut-free meals. I was sent 3 Delicious Meals:
- Dijon and Panko-Crusted Chicken
- Chicken with Green Peppercorn Sauce
- Patio BBQ Steak Sandwich
Go Get A Manicure
In the amount of time it takes me to grocery shop I can get a manicure. Home Chef sends every ingredient needed for the recipe. The only thing you should have on hand is salt, pepper, and olive oil (who doesn’t have that!) Your meals are delivered on the day you choose and if you are unable to be there, it’s ok! The meals are packed to stay fresh in an insulated, recyclable box until you get home. Their chefs choose fresh and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Did I mention delivery is free? Well it is!
Stay Organized
Each meal is separated in a baggie. Open the fridge and grab your meat and the baggie that has everything you need. No running back and forth to the fridge. This saves time, if you don’t believe me, time yourself grabbing all your ingredients for your meals.
Don’t Call The Army
One of my biggest challenges is to cook for just us. I seem to always cook for an army. We love our left-overs but it gets old eating the same thing for 4 days in a row. After just three meals with Home Chef, I’ve actually learned how to proportion our meals on the other days too.
Travel The World
The recipes are designed for beginners and seasoned cooks. If you never cooked with a particular ingredient, you will be an expert with the easy to follow step by step directions which takes about 30 minutes. You get to experience tastes you would think of. The new ingredients will inspire you.
An Italian Lady Set In Her Ways
Our family traditions go back generations and conversation by my aunts, mom, and grandmother usually consisted of what vegetables were grown in the garden, what was being canned, and what meat market to go to for the best meats. This week every time dinner or groceries came up in a conversation, I found myself excitedly telling about my experience with Home Chef. I enjoyed cooking dinner and experiencing a new taste and a new dish. Most importantly I loved to watch my husband’s face of bliss with these new meals!
