We have partnered with SheSpeaks/St. Martins Press to bring you this post
The holidays can be especially stressful leaving our needs or wants on the back burner. I recently gave you tips for stress free holiday decorating so you should be finished with the house. We also talked about how to stay stay healthy. The 5 tips to give yourself royal treatment are things you should be doing all year long but more so during the holidays or stressful times in your life.
- Make a spa appointment for yourself. A body massage can literally heal the mind, body, and soul. You will be surprised how a massage will energize you to tackle all of your tasks ahead. If it’s possible, try booking a spa day. I love to get my massage and hang at the spa for a few hours sipping teas, eating fruits, taking a dip in the pool, and sitting in the relaxation room to read a book or do nothing.
- Read a book – Learn how a young Queen of England lives her daily life, in Victoria, a novel by Daisy Goodwin. Victoria drawn from Queen Victoria’s Diaries takes you back to the 1800’s following the transition of a teenager becoming queen at just 18 years old. She had every luxury at her fingertips yet you have pity for her because she’s so alone. There are so many people talking in her ear about what she needs to do, say, wear, and who she needs to marry. This less than 5 foot young woman stands up to all and won’t be a puppet as she’s learning how to rule the greatest country in the world. Alexandrina by birth changed her name to Victoria and now she had to pick a husband. She was destined to marry her first cousin, Prince Albert, but he was not the man for her. She wanted to marry for love or rule alone!
I sometimes connect with the character and this time I totally understood the royalness of being a queen
Your stomach will hurt as the dressers pull her corset tighter, you will walk down the halls of the cold castle, and picture the royalty hanging on the walls. I learned about how difficult being a queen can be and now I’m not sure I want the job. I imagine myself tripping as I have to walk out of the room backwards. I feel for Victoria and want to invite her to a private place and just be her friend! This fictional history book is a quick read (I read it in 3 days) and will give you insight on the world of royalty. I now want to read about the real Queen Victoria. - Buy yourself a treat – You’ve been buying gifts galore and drooling over the great sales on items you love. Splurge and grab those shoes, that dress, and the moisturizer you’ve been wanting. If you find you are short on cash, you can find great deals on clothes and costume jewelry. An entire outfit can be found for under $50 but I say splurge – You deserve it!
- Soak in the tub – Ahhhhh, can you picture yourself sliding down into the warm water??? Blow up that bath pillow, add some oils to the water, light a few scented candles, turn on iTunes, and soak your stress away. **note** A hot bath this time of year can dry out your skin so be sure to moisturize as soon a s you get out!
- Do something you love – Make a date with a girlfriend to go roller skating or to the movies. Take out that craft you’ve been wanting to make. Go for a walk along a trail, take a yoga class, or maybe just take a nap. Bake a royal cake!
You are the Queen for the day and just like Victoria, take charge and choose your own destiny! Want more info on Victoria?
