Getting your children involved in after-school activities can prepare them for the world. But how do you balance all of your time getting them to and from these activities, your work, and taking care of the chores at home? Don’t stress; here are five tips to help you better manage your children’s after-school schedule.
- Carpool With Other Parents
One week, you can volunteer to drive everyone’s kids to practice in your used Hyundai Tucson. The next week, it can be someone else’s turn. By having every parent involved with the driving, that makes it easier on everyone’s schedule. It’s also best to avoid signing your children up for activities if you have no way to get them there on your own.
- Only Sign Your Children Up For One Activity Each
As much as you want your children to be well-rounded and have a lot of interests, it’s also important that they have some downtime. If they’re going to activities every single day of the week, they’re not going to have the time they need to recover from all these activities and rest. Touch in with them and see if they’re feeling overwhelmed by all of these clubs and practices.
- Take Advantage Of School Sports
Why give yourself more work to drive your kids to another location when school sports are right there? It eliminates the need to pick them up and drive them somewhere else; they can stay at school right after their classes are over, and still get all of the enrichment that they need. And if they’re friends are already involved in these school sports, then they’re already with people they recognize and know.
- Sync The Calendar TO Your Phone
It can be easy to forget when certain events are when you have a lot going on. By having the information on your phone, you can get reminders and notifications that will keep you on the ball. Add the cellphone numbers of coaches to your calendar as well, so that you’re not calling the wrong number. Keep the numbers of the parents of other players too, so that you won’t feel so alone and confused navigating all of these activities.
- Take Summers Off
As stated earlier, children need a break, so don’t sign them up for any activities that take place during the summer. That leaves you with three months you can spend time with them and take them on vacation so that you can create memories of your own together. Create your own plans and schedules of things you want to do together as a family.
It can be easy to lose yourself in everything that’s going on. But with these helpful tips in your pocket, you’ll be able to take some of the burden off your shoulders, as well as not make these after-school activities seem like chores to your children. Encourage them to try new things or delve into their interests, but it should become something they enjoy, not avoid when they get bored with it.
