So you’re indoors and you need to pass the time. Hey, join the club. Millions of families are working from home, teaching their children the usual lessons they would receive at school, and also, trying to make the afternoons and evenings go by smoothly. But boredom is our collective enemy. You can’t see it, smell it, or touch it. But it’s right there, inside your home and inside your mind. We have to stop ourselves from getting cabin fever. Who knows how long we’re going to be inside, now that the colder months are upon us. We can stop ourselves from deciding into boredom by keeping up our spirits and playing games.
Making the words
You will have hof scrabble but it will be one of those games that you find too difficult to play so you won’t even try. But it can be so much fun when you have a word finder on standby. If you can’t make complex words, that’s fine, using this word finder you can punch in the random words you have in the game at any one time, and be given a word that would fit your conundrum. This can mean that games last longer, they become more tense as they go on, and they actually work to increase your vocabulary. If you as a family, can not only learn something new but actually have fun, surely that is a win-win situation right!?
Draw your thoughts
If you’re one of those families with awkward teenagers, you will probably have bouts of silence in the house where no one is really talking. That’s okay, you’re not the only family that is learning to actually have real conversations once again. But, how about drawing your thoughts instead? A picture paints a thousand words and if you can draw your thoughts and feelings you could rouse up a conversation that way. So, buy some pastel crayons, paintbrushes, paint palettes, sketchbooks, etc and get some fantastic art. You can make pictures of your frustrations, the pandemic and your wider worries such as the finances of the household etc. this will bring you closer together and make for good competition drawing the same thing.
Fortress assault
Buy some building blocks and some marbles, and learn how to make catapults out of lego pieces. Split your family into two teams and make your own fortress out of the same number of blocks. Then you have to divide the marbles, evenly and then begin to take turns shooting the marbles at the castles you have both made.
The aim is to knock over the other castle as quickly as you can. However, each person in the team has to take a shot, one after the other. As opposing teams take turns to take shots you will notice some have good aim and others don’t. So choosing the weak points of their castle is key to landing the knockout blow despite the quality of players on each team!
These games are all good fun and they cost next to nothing to create at home. Don’t get bitten by cabin fever, start having some family fun!
