When it comes to decorating for the season, I am all over that. I usually start out saying I am going to go small but by the time the holiday arrives, it looks like the season blew up in the house. When I have everyone over for the holiday I want it to be festive and I want people to enjoy it. This year Thanksgiving is going to be at my daughter’s so I wasn’t thinking about decorating. Today when I looked at the editorial calendar for our #FallFun31 and saw it was fall decorating, I snapped into panic mode. I started looking around my house and realized I had not one fall anything out. Our parents expect us to decorate too and if we don’t, along comes the questions and comments, “Why Not?”, “At least put up a couple things” “Get in the spirit!”
I thought- Time to faux fall decorate!
Face Palm! So I threw together my dining room in fall decorations. Hope you will get some ideas:
Start with a tablecloth in a neutral fall color. Add a centerpiece with a scented candle in the middle and surround with natural elements of the fall (pine cones, nuts, twine balls, etc). Mums will bring the outside in and add beautiful color throughout the house.
If you have a buffet or table, add candles, leaf garland and something larger to bring the season together.
Leaf garland also makes a great addition around the windows or in my case, our giant clock
Now for the truth! Once I put these pictures on my Facebook, our parents (yes they are on FB) will be happy thinking I decorated for the season. I will receive no questions, no comments, and all will be well….. unless they decide to finally start reading my blog. My second problem is solved because I’m sharing my faux fall decorating with you so I now have a post. Don’t get me wrong, I do decorate for myself but with social media sharing, you can feel like you are lazy or falling behind. Here is what my dining room really looks and how I made it look like I decorated.
How to Faux Decorate:
Find at least one box of old decorations. Go in candle cabinet, grab candle and glass bowl. Open $2.99 potpourri mix and throw it in bowl around candle. Move the decorations you still have out from the shower that was three weeks ago and place out of the way of pictures.
Move the pile of boxes off the buffet, anything else squeeze in the spot on the table, grab a paper towel to wipe off the layers off dust (What if someone enlarged the picture and saw the marks from what was there- although it was pretty much covered with crap so there wasn’t must dust). try to stuff all the fake fruit back in the turkey basket so you can use it as a centerpiece, drape the leaf garland around clock (Shove it into the back- it only has to stay for 5 mins), loop leaf garland around turkey, find another candle so it fills the space.
Do Not show window area because you decided to throw out the curtains and you haven’t bought new ones. Oh, and there are still decorations from the baby shower on the windows and Yes, Easter eggs are hanging on my cabinet (come March I’ll be ahead of the game)
You are rushing so leave the rest of the leaf garland in a pile on the floor. Take your pictures, run to the computer to write your post (you’re late). Leave the light on, cabinet doors open, everything everywhere and hope that hubby doesn’t go in and see the mess because he cleaned today. DONE!
Have you ever needed to decorate quick? have you ever pretended to decorate?

Great job and the answer is YES I have pretended to decorate but the prize goes to the girl who posts about her lovely bedroom but it’s really the display at Kohls!

I’ve been working on becoming more of a minimalist. It helps with my anxiety. So a lot of the extra “stuff” is quickly leaving my house. I love decorating with nature though. That way it can go back outside when I’m done with it.

The only time I go overboard with decorating is during Christmas, otherwise I incorporate small touches throughout our home, just like you did.

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. The crisp breeze. Apples. Pumpkins. The reds and oranges of the trees. So beautiful, just like this decor!

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make things festive for the season. I also use leaf garland – I drape it through my picture frames on our fireplace. Looks fancy!
