Andy Kaufman, best known for his over the top pranks and eccentric personality passed away from a rare lung cancer in 1984.. or so the world thinks. Ever since his passing, rumors have circulated that the “Taxi” star faked his own death- partly because Andy had spoke to many friends about faking his own death.
The Gotham Comedy Club in New York City holds a yearly ceremony called the Andy Kaufman Awards which celebrates the late comedian. Performers carrying on the spirit of his unique comedy are recognized and this year his brother, Michael Kaufman, gave a speech. Michael’s speech included an extremely bold claim that Andy was still alive. He stated that he received a letter from Andy in 1999 (by having to mysteriously go to a certain restaurant) and then received another letter from an anonymous person (which is what he referenced at the awards) that stated Andy planned on faking his own death.
Michael Kaufman also claimed his brother was raising a daughter with a woman that he loved- and then proceeded to pull the young woman on stage. The 24 year old claimed to be the daughter of Andy Kaufman (his passing was 29 years ago) insisting he was still alive and planned to reveal himself at the event, but backed out last minute.
The question still remains if Andy Kaufman is indeed deceased or if he simply pulled off another Kaufman prank.
Do you think Andy Kaufman is alive or dead?
